Citizen Diplomats—Carving a Path toward Peace since 1963

Donations and Grants

Sister Cities Association of Sarasota is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that has private charity (PC) deductibility status. All funds come from membership fees, fund raising events, grants and donations. Our Federal tax identification number is 65-0178684. In general, an individual who itemizes deductions may deduct contributions to private charitable organizations up to 50% of his or her adjusted gross income computed without regard to net operating loss carrybacks.

Sister Cities Association of Sarasota is a volunteer citizen diplomacy organization which believes all people can help create understanding between nations, and promote world peace. Each year, more than 100 local citizen diplomats from our Cultural Coast travel to our twinned cities the name of friendship, world peace and global prosperity. A like number of citizens from our twinned cities visit here.

As a 501 (c) 3 organization, Sister Cities Association of Sarasota promotes global peace and prosperity through citizen diplomacy by stretching funding support to maintain key projects and programs. One hundred percent of donor funding is used to provide meaningful, lasting exchange programs and enables educational experience for participants.

Our major annual fund raiser is the One World Gala, held March 24, 2012 at Michael’s on East. The One World Award presented by the Sister Cities Association of Sarasota is the premier international award that honors a remarkable Sarasota-area organization or individual who has enhanced world understanding and respect through extraordinary work or volunteer service.

Nominations for the award are solicited each fall from members of Sister Cities Association of Sarasota members or its alliance organizations. Winner of the One World Award is selected by a selection committee of community leaders. The 2012 panel includes Sarasota Mayor Suzanne Atwell, chair, Dr. Sarah H. Pappas, president of The Selby Foundation; James Shirley, president, Sarasota County Arts Council; Steve Quier, president of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, and Fulton Lewis III, broadcast network news commentator.
