Contest Background
The idea for a Sister Cities photo contest grew out of a trip to Israel in April 2007 when Greg Carlson, a member of the Sarasota Sister Cities Association, met Tel Mond, Israel, photographer Ilan Hirschowitz.
In their conversation, the two agreed that photography could be used to improve understanding and relationships between the populations of Sarasota and Tel Mond. Further, both liked the idea of involving local photographers in some kind of contest and exhibiting their work in each other's cities and on their web sites.
The concept was expanded to include an invitation to photographers in each of Sarasota's sister cities so that a truly international exhibit could be held. Thus, Sarasota is extending the invitation to submit photographs for exhibit to their sister cities of Dumfermline (Scotland); Vladimir (Russia); Siming District (Xiamen, China); Hamilton (Ontario, Canada); Treviso (Italy); Perpignan (France); as well as Tel Mond (Israel).
Now, all we need are your photos and completed application form. Don't wait! Show us and the world your best shots that reflect Sarasota's way of life and focus on its people and places.
