May 4th Community Speaker Event with Illustrator Jamiel Law

LEARN HOW EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATIONS ADDRESS CONTEMPORARY WORLD EVENTS

Please bring your friends and come and join us at our monthly Community Speaker Series hosted at the Gelbart Auditorium in the Selby Library from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Jamiel Law is an illustrator and creative problem solver based in Parrish, FL. He graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design. 

Jamiel strives to make every art piece matter by taking the time to consider its meaning and importance to himself and the viewer. For the last three years, he’s worked to hone his artistic ability while working professionally with outlets like the New York Times, The New Yorker, NBC News, Slate, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Bravery Magazine, Equal Justice Initiative, The Guardian, Apple, HBO, and Netflix. He is also working on his first children’s book with Harper Collins.

A perfect overview tour for residents or visitors wanting to know more about Sarasota’s history, culture, and things to do.

On this air-conditioned 90-minute City Sightseeing Tour, meander through Sarasota’s historic downtown neighborhoods of Gillespie Park, Burns Court, Indian Beach, and the Rosemary Design District while visiting historic spots and hearing stories about the Ringling family, Bertha Palmer, John Hamilton Gillespie, and many more founders and influencers. (Due to traffic in the high season, the route may change.)

You will learn about the many attractions and things to do as well as restaurants and shopping. See our world-class artistic and cultural organizations: The Ringling Museum, Ringling College of Art and Design, Asolo Theater, Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, Selby Gardens, Sarasota Opera House, Art Center Sarasota, and Sarasota Symphony Orchestra.

Learn more about the architects and developers who designed some of our most unique homes and buildings, like the Blue Pagoda, Bidwell House, Crocker Memorial Church, and Splendida.

Circus history, Amish culture, real estate development booms and busts, and colorful stories about Sarasota’s founders give you a true overview of Sarasota’s rich and amazing cultural history.

Please meet at least 30 minutes before the tour to register and check in.

THE TOUR BEGINS: 6:00 PM
The tour begins promptly at 6:00 PM. If you are not on board the trolley 30 minutes before the tour begins, you will forfeit your seat.

Please join us after the tour at Mandeville Beer Garden, 428 N. Lemon Ave, for refreshments. To save a seat, please check off the box to join at registration.
