Exploring Mérida: Our Mayan Sister City

We invite you to join us for a special presentation celebrating the vibrant cultural bond between Sarasota and our Sister City of Mérida, Yucatán — a relationship built on friendship, exchange, and shared community values.

 

As part of the Selby Library Speaker Series, City Director Grisell Alemán and Assistant Director Mike Fehily will guide us through an inspiring journey into Mérida, known as the cultural heart of the Yucatán Peninsula.

 

City Director Grisell Alemán and Assistant Director Mike Fehily will guide us through Mérida’s rich Mayan heritage, its history, culture, and unforgettable cuisine. We’ll also share highlights from the 2024 Sister Cities trip, where members strengthened friendships and deepened the cultural bond between our two cities.

 

We will also reflect on the past connection between Mérida and Sarasota, a relationship that has grown over the years through cultural exchanges, educational collaborations, and meaningful friendships that continue to enrich both communities.

 

Following the presentation, we invite all attendees to a Meet & Greet at Amore Restaurant, where members can continue the conversation, connect with fellow travelers, and enjoy a warm community gathering.

 

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Mérida, celebrate our international friendships, and experience the spirit of global connection that defines the Sister Cities mission.
