Could you share a bit about your background and how it led you to join SCAS?

I have been actively involved in the Sarasota art scene and am currently on the Sarasota Public Art Committee. My goal is to try to overlap the vibrance of Sarasota’s art community with those of our sister cities.

What unique perspectives or experiences do you feel you bring to the SCAS community?

I started with the Sister Cities Association of Sarasota when I taught art in Tel Mond in the 90’s. It was an amazing opportunity, and I hope others will be able to travel through this organization.

How has your involvement with SCAS enriched your understanding of global cultures?

I have had the pleasure to meet and become friends with members of our local community who have diverse and international backgrounds.

Why would you recommend others join SCAS?

The world seems currently divided and getting to know people from across the globe is the ingredient to bringing us together. We all have more in common than we know.

Can you share a significant learning or takeaway from one of the SCAS programs you’ve been part of?

I have been to two SCAS Xiamen, China events and it has expanded my knowledge and appreciation for the uniqueness of their culture.

What does being a ‘citizen diplomat’ mean to you?

It’s a responsibility to connect shared experiences and celebrate our differences.
